Cumbernaul Airport gets new airfield wind system

Cumbernaul Airport gets new airfield wind system

Cumbernauld Airport is a general aviation airport located within easy reach of both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Open seven days a week, the busy airport sees a variety of aviation activity including flying training and private business flying, in both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.

Some months ago, along with other operational equipment, the airport's wind measurement system was totally destroyed in a violent thunderstorm, and MetEngUK was eventually contacted to provide a solution.

Making use of an existing, well-exposed anemometer tower, and after thorough testing of the airfield cabling, MetEngUK engineers completed the installation and commissioning of a new combined OMC-160/3 wind sensor and OMC-140 wind display unit on 15 February 2018, thus restoring the important display of accurate wind data in the Airport Control Room.
