MetEngUK has the capacity, expertise and resources to source, supply, install and commission a wide range of aviation-specific meteorological instrumentation and systems at airports, airfields and heliports worldwide.

Where necessary, we can offer recommendations for overall system design and configuration, as well as providing expert advice on sensor exposure and deployment.

For new airfield installations, or where changes in operational equipment necessitate the generation of a Safety Case, we will readily provide assistance in the form of technical product documentation, maintenance and calibration schedules, and can liaise with equipment manufacturers on behalf of our customers for additional technical data when required.

Power Generation

Meteorological instrumentation and systems are often included as safety components at nuclear power plants, where the display and logging of accurate wind data can be critical in mitigating the effects of a hazardous release to the atmosphere.

Precise knowledge or automatic input of the ambient meteorological conditions can also greatly improve the cost-efficiency of CCGT installations, and may be critical in winter conditions when icing poses a threat to air intake systems. MetEngUK has the expertise to advise on the most suitable meteorological instruments and systems.

Chemical and Pharmaceutical Manufacturer/Processing

The release of hazardous substances into the atmosphere is an ever present danger in many chemical processes, and can present serious problems, particularly in populated areas. Wind speed and direction data are of paramount importance for 'nowcasting' the position of the offending plumes.

MetEngUK has identified accurate and reliable meteorological systems for indicating and recording wind data, and we can custom-design these systems and their output formats to meet our customers' exact requirements.

MetEngUK also markets and installs the state-of-the-art 'Plumecast' system.

Plumecast is a combination of software, running on a PC, and wind sensors. The PC runs a dispersion model updated every second. It then displays the area at risk from an accidental release and, as an option, in a real emergency can also display the estimated present location of an airborne plume. The use of fast response anemometers allows turbulence characteristics to be measured directly rather than estimated. This makes real time dispersion modelling much more accurate as well as faster.

Ports and Harbours

The movement of shipping in and out of ports and harbours always demands attention to detail, and the effects of the surface wind can, at times, produce dramatic results. Accurate display and knowledge of the wind speed, direction, gusts and variability can add significantly to the safety of vessels and their crews, as well as to the confidence of harbour staff when manoeuvring in difficult situations.

Professional wind measurement systems from MetEngUK not only indicate ‘instantaneous’ speed and direction data, but can display averages over specified time periods, as well as maximum and minimum speeds, and the limits of direction variation.

Sports and Leisure

Grounds management, athletic track conditions, maintenance of stadiums, even golf at the numerous seaside golf links, can all be weather-critical operations.

Whatever weather-related parameter needs to be measured or logged, MetEngUK has the expertise to advise on the most suitable meteorological instruments and systems. We have the resources to install, maintain and calibrate equipment so that it continues to perform correctly throughout its operational life.

National Meteorological Services

MetEngUK has been exporting to national weather services for two decades.

Regardless of the requirement; whether it is for a major installation or just for the supply of technical consumables, we are pleased to be able to support the global meteorological community.
