Centrica call on MetEngUK to resolve wind system problem at south Wales power station.

In common with most U.K. power stations, accurate local meteorological data is vital for the efficient operation of the plant at Barry Power Station in the Vale of Glamorgan. The wind direction sensor in use at Barry had failed, and the C&I Team had attempted, unsuccessfully, to acquire a replacement from the manufacturer in the U.S.A. through a nominated U.K. agent.

With the system unserviceability becoming a serious concern, MetEngUK was contacted on 28 May. An urgent order was placed with the Californian manufacturer on 1st June and the new wind vane shipped to Centrica on 19th June. The sensor was installed and the system fully operational again by the 22nd.

Terry Bowgen of Centrica’s C&I Team at Barry Power Station commented, “… In all honesty the service I have had has been excellent. I went through another supplier weeks before you and I am still waiting just for a quote. This was a company that we had a service contract with only a year ago. If we require any other spares in future I will come straight back to you.”
